Perhaps because summer here is so fickle, north Germans really get into summer and summer rituals: sleeveless shirts (even when it is not yet 75°), going to the coast to swim (even when it is not yet 75°), and grill parties (even when it is not yet 75° and/or it is raining). But we've had some luck lately - it's been over 75° and it hasn't been rainy. We got out the grill.
Understand, since we have precious little summer and precious little space we have a precious grill - acutally a cast iron hibachi - that suffices. This is the second time we've used it this summer!
Here, almost ready for the food.
And here, the food. "Grilling" in north Germany means NOT the same as in the US of A - seldom
beef, most often Bratwurst, seasoned pork chops, fresh bacon. I confess I have never seen a grilled hot dog here - they are always boiled.
We opted for the slightly less fatty / high caloric version. Werner insisted on some bacon, but the skewered chicken was a winner too. Maybe before we have to put it up again, we can use it once more!
