Road Trip

Nickolet, our student from Zimbabwe, has been feeling house-bound lately.  Heavy class load, off-on spring weather, mid-term exams - all those work together to make you want to break out.
So, Nickie, Want to come for breakfast and take a trip?
YES!
Where would you like to go?
I don't care - anywhere off campus would be wonderful.
So Nickolet and her roomie Ranisha (from Nepal) came for breakfast.  They put away eggs - scrambled and fried -  toast and jam, and grits. Grits?  Funny, before we sat down to eat, Nickie asked:  I've been watching a US TV series and they talk about grits.  What are grits?  Well, here was the answer right in front of her.  And both of them LOVED the grits!  Hey, these girls are OK!

Then we headed up to Bremerhaven.  But first Werner had to show them the way.  Werner loves maps.

We got to Bremerhaven and parked near the harbor.  We looked at the water, the buildings, the ships in the Museum Harbor, posed with statues and toured the U-Boat that we'd done with Hunter and Hannah two years before.  It's still interesting!

And here was a boat named for my mother.

Here's a statue of Christopher Columbus, in front of the Columbus Center.

And us with the girls, happy to be off campus.

After an ice cream and a walk around the shopping mall, we took a very brief look at Wremen from the car since it seemed that half of north Germany was on the move that weekend.  There was no place to park!

Then we stopped at the Fish Harbor in Bremerhaven where they happened to be having a street fair.  How appropriate! We were hungry again and the fish and chips were just the answer.

Wow.  Sunshine. Road trip.  Good day.
