Dinner for One
Werner - my husband - mein Mann - is off with friends tonight, very old friends. It's the 50th reunion of his graduation. Of course it isn't the same here as there; the "class" is the group of people in HIS class - in that case, at that time, 21 individuals. They did most everything together for three years, so for better or worse, they knew each other pretty well at an impressionable time of life. Since 1961, there's been a get-together every 5 years with varying numbers in attendance. But Ernst, the Class President, keeps track of them all. Two classmates have died; two who lived in the US for years and years have returned to Germany; a couple are still actively working and were "maybes" for attending.
The biggest difference perhaps is that spouses are not NOT invited. In general a good idea I suppose. But that means I am pretty much on my own this weekend. Therefore tonight, dinner alone.
I can do that! On the way back from shopping I noticed there were some nice fresh dandelions growing where they shouldn't have been in my flower pots, so I plucked them out. Looks like salad to me!
But what for dinner. Well, do something that mein Mann isn't so wild about (besides dandelion greens!), so that would be macaroni and cheeses (mascarpone + parmesan) with a gratin of buttered breadcrumbs and fresh sage.
Yum.
