Friday night we had a special meal since we won't have another "regular" meal for three days. It was really pretty, and tasty besides.
Boiled Potatoes and Fresh Flower Petals
Of course there were multiple modifications to the original recipe. I didn't have crème fraiche so I substituted yogurt and whipped cream, added some mayonnaise and mustard and my herbs were from the garden so not exactly what was called for but wonderful anyway (basil, lemon balm, sage, chives, oregano, lots of parsley, thyme). Put in the food processor till it's green and finely chopped. Yum. It was good on the potatoes, too. On the side we had a salad of zucchini and yellow squash ribbons on arugla with fried feta.
The flower petals were for decoration, but they are edible, too - daisy, geranium and lavender along with some plain herbs. Pretty.
So, the reason for the meal was that Monday and Tuesday, Werner and I are scheduled for colonoscopies, just because it's past time to do it. Of course there are lots of reasons people put off this procedure, all of them hilariously described by Dave Barry in this column.
I'll let you know if all he says is true, but I don't think he's making it up.
