Our neighborhood museum is quite lovely; we're members and we visit often. Several times a year they offer short trips and sometimes we tag along. Actually, some are rather grand - they had a three-day, three-city excursion including the Vermeer exhibit in Amsterdam!
But this trip was really local - the Hafenmuseum in the former Überseehafen near the city center. There are miles of old storage buildings there that have been re-purposed into offices, restaurants, you-name-it, including a museum. Our "port of call" for today. But how easy to take the tour bus, have a guided tour, be delivered home again. Great!
The paintings were done by a group of local artists who - in various configurations - have been working together for years. They choose some locations, choose some dates, pack up their tools and go and paint outdoors. And quickly!!
So what we get to see is the interpretations of several artists looking at the same place though maybe from a slightly different perspective. It was really interesting!
Paintings were grouped according to the venue where they were painted.
Here, the main market square, done with acrylic paints and using a finger instead of a brush.
You can see the strokes. This artist makes his own colors and they are muted and softer than those from tubes. Lovely. The venue is interesting on its own.
