Private Gardens

Gardening is a passion here for many folks.  Veggies, of course, but also flowers and the special space in your own little world where you can retreat from the everyday stress and strain.

This time of year there are several options for visiting private gardens and last weekend there was one in our little neighborhood.  Yes, let's go!

These folks live in what is called a "Captain's House."  The ship owners had the super-fancy places along the river, the captains across the street in nice, but not so grand, quarters.  This home was on the street where we lived when I first came to Bremen (though it was no historical place).

Look,  a rain barrel, a real barrel!  Love it.

They're narrow, these homes, but some apparently decided to share their back gardens, and so it was with this. It's a lovely place with lots of little corners and nooks and so much green and color from the flowers.  Ahhh.

We needed a bit more exercise and took the train into town and then biked back along a favorite path that goes by a lake and a canal.  But, but, we took a corner and then there was an amazing gust of wind. I almost lost my balance, but Werner lost his hat!  Oh NO!

We'll find a replacement - and Werner loves shopping for hats - but we were sad to see this example slowly, slowly sinking in the canal.  Bye, bye,
