Busy Weekend

Last Saturday morning started with Spring Cleaning.  Big time.  Unfortunately, not at our house which needs it desperately, but somewhere else.  We belong to a group that supports a local park and of course they depend on volunteers for a lot of things.  This time of year, just like at home, it's time to clean up.  So we all got together to do that.

This was not what you'd call a major sacrifice, but to tell the truth, we are seldom out of the house before 9 am on a Saturday morning. But we did it!  Lucky for us it was not cold and not wet!  We got our clean-up bags and rubber gloves and got to work.

After collecting beer bottles, cigarette packages, a hub cap and assorted plastic, we called it a morning, headed to the outdoor green market for some veggies and fruit and then to home.  We had to get ready for a birthday party!

My intercultural experience is limited (but expanding), but I have to say that in my limited intercultural experience, Germans take the cake, so to speak, when celebrating birthdays. They can put on a party!

Ernst is now 75.  Looks 60.  Acts like 45.  75 is the new 45 I guess.

Ernst is a gifted pianist and many of his friends are musically talented as well.  At his parties, you have to work a bit  - take a musical quiz.  The winner gets a prize, though the prize is usually in a minor key.  Hee hee.

The saxophonist is 80 and only needs to know the name of the song to make the music. We all sing along and as you can well imagine, I sing along lustily.  Love singing!!

And of course the saxophonist can play the piano for the oboist!  I feel soooooo untalented around such people but am so grateful to know them.

We got home late and then got up early for a brunch with René and Rima.  It's a good thing we're family.  They forgot about the change to summer time and thought we were an hour early!!  That's an unpleasant surprise on a Sunday morning!  And really, we could have slept in another hour, too!

Opa helped Amina with some homework about the Watt by drawing a picture.  We love the Watt!  Maybe we'll make a visit with Amina and Lea in summer.

And Mama found a place in the sun. We should all do the same.
