It was 22° C today. That means about 72°F. That means almost summer! That means, lets pack some food for a picnic and go out on our bikes!
We had to make it not toooo long a trip since Werner had to have a bit of skin excised from his leg because it was not healthy (yeah, one of those little cancers, but not a biggie, but a wound), and besides that, the folks who run the trains were on strike this morning, so there wasn't the option of going to a farther-away place and then biking home. OK, that is really OK. There are so many options for different bike tours from our own door. Bored are we never.
Make some sandwiches. A little tomato and feta salad. OK, chips. Tea. Water. Don't forget the tablecloth.
A perfect spot.
Spreading a cloth on the ground is NOT our thing - a table and benches are best. Thank goodness, we can find them here.
This was very close to where Michelle calls it "Our Windmill" - a turbine where we had a picnic with Hunter, Hannah, Michelle and Joey way back in 2007, the first year H&H visited us. How pretty, the new green of the trees.
And here we are, enjoying ourselves.
Funny, we seldom go this direction - usually, we are coming FROM town. And so, you notice different things. There's a farmhouse I've passed so many times, but never noticed this medallion next to the barn door - we were always heading the other direction.
What caught my eye was the bee hive in the center. At least, I think it is a bee hive. There are two generous crossed sheaves of wheat, a shovel, a pitchfork, an scythe, and rake - all the implements the farmers would have used for the wheat fields. It looks like an "M" at the top, but I don't think it is - Another tool?? I want to know more...
And now I do! The things that look like an "M" are threshers, tools that beat the wheat to separate the kernels from the chaff. What work.
