Sweet and Sour Pork

So, hang on. This will take a minute.

A couple of weeks ago I was with a friend in town and we had time between two events, time to eat lunch! There was an Asian/Chinese restaurant she knew well. Fine! I don't get that often.

I thought I ordered Sweet and Sour Pork, thinking I'd get the fried pork pieces with veggies and a sauce, but it wasn't  that at all. The pork was sautéed, not crispy, and not enough veggies at all. I've been carrying around this unmet desire since then.

Last week we made a big pot of goulash for us and friends but Werner bought a mix of pork and beef. Noooo, I said, just beef. There were left over pork bits. So!!!! Sweet and sour pork.

The last time I made it was 1980 or so. Not kidding. Look up a recipe, make the necessary modifications and get to work.

Marinate the meat.

Chop the veggies and ginger and garlic and onion. Prep is everything when it comes to this kind of food.

Fry up the pork. Twice.  Crispy is the thing.

Sauté / stir fry the veggies and add the sauce.

Throw in the pork and spoon over the rice and you have a meal and a half. I have to say I was not disappointed to have had to wait so long for my Sweet and Sour Pork. We'll have to do that again soon.

Or maybe Cashew Chicken....
