We had thought that this year we'd forego the big tree, do something small and easy that didn't require rearranging the living room. But then Liz, Sean and Kelly planned a visit to us, so, really, we need a tree, not a tree.
I'm OK with that. So yesterday we got the tree. Not bad - the weather was cold but dry and we got home and propped it in the corner. Later that day, we got out the stand and wouldn't you know, it started to rain! Quick, get the tree inside because decorating a wet tree with electric lights is not my thing.
Done, but that's Monday late afternoon and we have classes and Tuesday Werner is gone all day and since Tuesday turned out sunny, I did yard work all day. So, late afternoon today, I begin the trimming.
First the lights and then all the little boxes with the ornaments!
I love our tree and all the ornaments. Every one has a story.
These glass icicles were a gift from Michelle while she was a student at Auburn. The sand dollar behind was collected in the gulf and bleached at home.
There's even a gator, but not a UF gator.
There are so very many pelicans (and other sea animals!)
and some very special sea urchins from Puerto Rico.
And close to my heart, a miniature basket with rolls of linen.
Did I mention the wasps? Oh, yes, two of them of the very large variety. Hard to say if they had nestled themselves into the tree or into our boxes in the attic, but suddenly, there they were in the living room! Werner, professional insect catcher, got them corralled and placed outside. Thanks, Werner!
And here's the whole tree. Our ceiling is not soooo high, so our tree is not soooo tall, but it fills the room and fills our hearts with holiday feels.
