New Deck

The deck is wood.  Wood rots.  I'd thought we would replace it last year, but the general consensus was, it could go another year.  Yes, barely!

Hey, we can do this ourselves, we said to ourselves!  So after the US trip and the grandchild visit, it was (past) time.  Werner did all the calculations, checked out the types of wood and the vendors and (gulp) ordered the wood.

Which meant renting a van, since we could save a couple hundred euros picking it up ourselves, even renting the van.  Boy, was that work!  Rent the van, find the supplier, load the wood, unload the wood, take back the van.

It doesn't look like all that much, but it was!

Back home, it was step-by-step.

The new boards are slightly wider than the originals, so it meant a bit extra work with the measuring and cutting since the deck isn't squared off.  Weather didn't help as there is still too much rain here.  But...

work continued.

And then, wow, it's just about done!

Werner is such a good house-husband, home-worker, stay-with-it guy.  He is so appreciated!

And here it is.  Actually, it's not really done since the finishing product says the wood should be exposed for three weeks or so before the treatment is done.  In the meantime, we'll enjoy the new deck!
