Prep for the Danube Bike Tour
We've been sort of training, doing some often and regular bike trips to make sure we are ready for our Danube bike tour. Lordy, Tuesday is just around the corner!
Last Wednesday, we thought we'd go to one place and back, but we got started too late so we decided instead to go to the Stork Station and back - to Berne and back. Actually, we've not done this in a while, but we should do it more often.
First, leaving Vegesack, the sun came out and we had such a nice view of the former training ship for the German merchant marine.
And at the Stork Station, we sat and drank our tea and ate our cake that we'd brought along and just enjoyed looking at the storks. They are so ungainly but at the same time so elegant. How is that?
The grounds are nice to look at, too.
Then we left to go home and Werner got distracted by the lovely landscape. It is so lovely here.
But somehow the bike went over the edge of the concrete way and the bike sorta went one way and he sorta went the other way and the concrete won. I am a trained nurse, but I just hate looking at wounds on the folks I love. Ohhhhh, that was hard. We cleaned up as much as we could and I decided we had to visit the doc before we went home. That meant visiting the ER.
After a couple of hours, a tetanus shot and some bandaging, we got home. (We got the bill today, €50.00. Really? It looks like the whole bill, but I can hardly believe it.)
He's fine. He visited our friendly primary Doc the next day who changed the bandage. Today we took it off to air (not fun but less than gruesome). We're up for the trip.
But I needed one more thingy - something on the handlebars to hold the camera (at least). So I made my own baggy for the handlebars and it turned out pretty good. Leftovers from earlier projects, a rigid bottom that Werner fashioned from other left-over stuff. We are ready!!
