B O R I N G

Sorry, folks, it is another bike outing. If you want I can post pictures of Werner repairing the outer wall of the house in the back or me organizing all the fabric I have upstairs that I can't even keep track of.  But that's really boring.

Besides the weather has been unusually wonderful, sunny days, pleasantly warm, comfortably dry. So, we bike.

We went again a bit north of Vegesack, intending to visit the island in the Weser, Harriersand, the largest river island in Germany.  But, no, we got halfway there and changed our route!!  Who cares, it was a great ride.

First, to Farge and then north to the Bunker Valentin.  It was built by slave labor during WWII to service the submarines of the Nazi regime, and though thousands died building it, it was never put into use. The war ended.

There are so many other bunkers in Bremen, too well built.  Tearing them down is too expensive. Some are disguised with paintings.

Some have been converted to apartments.   This needs to be done a lot more often, in my humble opinion.
But mostly they rot.  But not quickly.

Ah. Enough of that.  On up the Weser!

Standing on the dike is special. Sometimes you see the great river just on the other side, sometimes you see huge pastures and fields of the flood plain.  Regardless, there is a view.  We don't have many views from heights here...

And finally, a view of our biking path.  Bikers, walkers, farmers can use this road.  In the distance you can see the dike and they are working to raise it.  We recognize the rising water level and are getting ready for it.  Don't know how much it will help, but Germany is trying to keep the wolf from the door.

Four hours, 30K (we took a break or two), and back home again.  Another good day.
