Sunday Stroll

Since the shops are closed on Sundays here, folks are accustomed to taking this day to do something quiet, take some family time, take a breath.  Even though we aren't working any more (at least one of us isn't!), Sunday is still a day to refresh.

Last Sunday we drove out to Fischerhude, a village near us where lots of artisans have settled, organic farmers ply their wares, horses take up almost as much space as humans.  We have been there with everyone who has visited us here in Bremen - Michelle and Joey on their honeymoon, sisters, friends, cousins.  It's worth a visit.

But on the way, there was a little fair in another town, so we stopped.  Of course.

One stand had folks weaving baskets.  We looked and watched and finally I asked, Do you sell these?  The man laughed and said Of course!  Ours is now the little one 3rd from the left.

Another stand had sunflowers for sale.  Wow!  So much sunshine in one place!

We got to Fischerhude and parked and started our walk, along the small roads leading to the countryside.  Folks there grow stuff and make stuff and put stuff on the street to sell.  No one is staffing the stands - want it?  Put some money in the Honor Box.  Eggs, chard, pumpkin, lavender bags, jams.
We walked down the road till it ended and then walked back and thought, well, a cup of tea and a little piece of cake would be nice and we can do it here, don't you think?  It's the home of Rainer Maria Rilke's sculptor wife and their daughter.  Lovely spaces in and out .

Later we visited an exhibit that two of our friends have put together, a combination of his poetry and her collages that were wonderfully done and wonderfully arranged in an old house in old, lovely Fischerhude.
All in all, a wonderful, relaxing day.  Hope you had the same.
