Funny, sculpture is far from my favorite art form, though there are sculptures that capture me beyond words - David by Michelangelo, of course, and Cupid and Psyche by Canova can leave me breathless. Then again, those are of another age and modern sculpture can leave me, well, speechless. But I keep trying.
This exhibit was busts of philosophers, some we knew and some we didn't. They were fashioned of foam, wood chips, steel wool, needlepoint scraps, thread and linen, wood veneer, twigs, plaster, plastic twine. Sounds weird, but it was wonder-full.
Most were set on old ironing boards - nice and stable and ... interesting.
Here's St. Augustus as the bishop he was. The mitre is of cloth and his beard - shells!
Here's Werner contemplating Nietzsche.
If you have a chance to see the work of Eveline van Duyl, I would recommend it heartily!
