Timeless Autumn - Herbstzeitlose


... also known as Autumn Crocus or Meadow Saffron. Here's what they looked like two weeks ago: ugly brown things on the windowsill.



But later - just a little time, no water no soil - they become this:



Several years ago I bought a few and after they bloomed, I planted them in the garden and promptly forgot that I did. The next spring these green spikes came up, not very attractive, much too crowded by other plants, and it never DID anything! So I dug it up - and then I remembered what it was. Too late. I'll plant these and try to remember this time not only THAT I did it, but where I put them! It's a good thing to remember since all parts of the plant are quite poisonous!

It's nice to have a little bit of color inside this time of year even if it's a bit dangerous.
