The Arboretum

There's a garden near us, the Arboretum.  It's a special place with trees and shrubs and plants, flowers and perennials from different places on our earth, compact (!!!) on two hectares.  Our dear friends Elke and Jürgen, avid gardeners, had never been there, so we corrected that error.
The day was weather-wise OK - we'd had lots of rain this week, but it was rain-free and mostly sunny.
One of the first to greet us was a shrub I know well from Florida - a bottle brush plant. They don't ever look quite the same outside their normal habitat.

The garden is meticulously planned so that visitors experience different themes in the spaces. Here, an Italian garden.
There's a Japanese area as well with this bridge as its centerpiece, but I don't much care for the bright colors.
Of course, it changes with the season - now there are daylilies, hydrangeas, and other summer bloomers.

And trees.  I had to look up the word, but Arboretum actually refers to a collection of trees, and there are many different sorts here with differing crowns and trunks.

It was a pleasant walk-about, followed buy some tea and cake.  It deserves another visit in another season.

Post Script:

Elke loves to write and after our visit she created a Haiku

Fingerkuppen zart
folgen den Rindenstruktur
feinrissig, weich, glatt.

Here's a passable translation:

Delicate fingers
trace the texture of the bark
fine lined, soft and smooth.

Thank you so much, Elke!
