Well, this is not Spain but it's part of the trip. And oh, it was nice to be home: gray, coolish, windy. That's Bremen! And it's not raining! Who needs all that sunshine anyway?
This was a packed almost-two-days in Bremen, and we got started right away.
First up, a Bratwurst! Hunter's been talking about this since Day 1. And who can blame him? I've had lots of Bratwurst in the last 20+ years, and I've had some as good but none better than what we get here in Bremen. Ummm, think I'll have another....
Since we'd not been home in a while, good friend and neighbor got some essentials from the market, we picked up a couple of things from the supermarket, and the visits began. First, Alica came to say Hi. Though she's been taking English at school for at least 5 years, she's naturally a bit shy speaking to native speakers, so I did some translating for them.
Now and then.
Before we knew it, Amina arrived with parents René and Rima in tow. Again, though Amina has been taking English at school and I talk to her in English (some) it's a bit intimidating with these kids who talk so fast! No matter, they smiled and found ways to be friendly with each other.
It was fun!!
Next day, after a breakfast of French toast, we headed to town.
The required picture with the Bremen Town Musicians. We've done this before. Is that funny or what!!
The wonderful statue of Roland.
At the entrance to the Böttcherstraße.
Listening to the Glockenspiel.
Hunter and Hannah had on their wish list "meet up with the magician" on the steps of the Rathaus. He wasn't there and we were a bit sad, but so it is. But then we got to the Schnoor, and there he was! What an absolute treat! He's a bit older, his hair a bit shorter, his middle a bit thicker, and his tricks a bit more sophisticated, but still so much fun. Smiles all around!!
Later we had coffee and cake with Ilsemarie and Ulli. Michelle and Joey had met them in Tallahassee before either of the four of them even got married, and then again in Bremen after they got married. I think I'll call this "Tour Nostalgia" !!
Then back home for the strangest dinner I have ever put on the table, but there was something for everyone: white asparagus (with smoked ham and potatoes), bratwurst, gyros, salad. We forgot to put the beans on the table, but we all had enough. Y U M.
And it is over way too soon. The next morning, it was a quick breakfast, pack bags, off to the train.
What an amazing trip! I can't put enough exclamation marks here. Lots of planning that came off pretty well, so many wonderful sights, new adventures and visits to comfy old sites, too. Thanks for coming, you guys. Lots and lots of love to you all.
Next trip ???
