Mini Gator Reunion

Of course, I am NOT a Gator, but I some of my best friends are Gators - starting with Werner!

We're so lucky to have old friends here from our beginning together, great folks from all around Germany who found themselves at UF way back 20 years ago, studying German Literature.  It was an intense and fun time for all of them, maybe mostly for the younger crew, but Werner was included - even though he was almost old enough to be a father to most of them - and of course he had a lot of fun, too. A lot.

And now those kids are getting older - nifty, nifty, they're turning 50!  Annette was not the first to hit the half-century mark, but she was the reason we got together this year.  OK! Let's party!

We met in Bergtheim, just south of Würzburg, and mostly sat around and looked at pictures and told stories and ate and sipped wine.  Hey, that is not a bad way to spend a weekend.  We missed having Beni and Maus and Jeremy and Rosewitha and a few others with us, but we tried to make up for their absence by eating more and having more fun.  We did a pretty good job. Actually, a very good job.

Sunday we had breakfast at the Gasthaus and got off the train in Würzburg to wander around the old city for a couple of hours.  We've been there with M+J, their first honeymoon day that was really jet-lagged, and with Ginny and Barry.  This time we skipped the major attractions and just poked our noses in places here and there.  One was the Juliusspital - a hospital established in the 17th c.  Not a bad place to recuperate, I'd say.

Würzburg, like so many cities in Germany, was heavily bombed during WWII, but several lovelies survived, including the St. Michel Church.

And on the old bridge over the Main River, not only love locks, but cocheted flowers tied to the lampposts.  I think I have to crochet some locks!
