Politics German Style
It's the season for politicking. And it's interesting, a bit more so here since there are more political parties. With a minimum of 5% of the vote, a party can seat a representative in the state legislature and with 5 or 6 active parties , it is rare for a single party to have a majority and coalitions are common. But just like in the US of A, there's lots of sloganeering.
The Left Party broke off of the SPD - the "Democrats" if you will - because they felt the SPD was getting too centrist. Here's their poster:

TAX WEALTH !! Raise taxes on the millionaires and the big corporations, lower taxes for small companies and us regular folks.
They have made significant gains this season. No real surprise to most folks, but the CDU ("Republican") was a bit taken aback last weekend by their success.
Another one openly said "SHARE THE WEALTH!" Germans are known for being straightforward; they don't mince words.
The Green Party is usually a strong 3rd in the polls. No surprise that this guy is the local Green candidate. They do tend to look a bit unkempt.

And then there are the people who seem to lose their sense of taste, or forget to check with their brains before ordering the campaign posters. The charming lady on the left is our Chancellor (CDU) and the charming lady on the left is Vera Lengsfeld (CDU) who thought pairing herself with the poplular chancellor would help her cause.
It says: We have more to offer. Double entendre intended. Geeeeeze.
