Movies
The big newest theater downtown shows movies in the original version (read: English) at least once a week, sometimes more. We can't always go when they are shown, and we don't always want to see what they're showing! But this week I had no classes on Monday and they were showing Benjamin Button. Hey, 13 Oscar nominations - worth a trip, don't you think?

In the US of A, you don't get a seat assignment, but this is Germany and we will be organized. Also, in the US of A, when there are lots of seats available you don't sit right next to another person even if you do have a reservation. But I had a seat .... and mine was 13. Shoulda been an omen.

Somehow the popcorn gets bumped to the floor by these too close people and their coats then gets bumped again by Werner moving our coats and goes all over the guy in front of us and after I settle down - which I have plenty of time to do since there are 30 minutes of previews and advertisements, the movie starts.

The movie lasts a v e r y l o n g time. The popcorn does not. There's even an intermission for heaven's sake and THEN when it starts up again, it's in GERMAN. Boos and hisses and calls for ENGLISH and - I think I saw popcorn tossed - then it finally gets right again.

All that hassle for a trifle. It was amusing, Benjamin Button, and I loved the shots of New Orleans and Paris, but 13 Oscar nominations? I don't think so.
