Worpswede is a cultural touchstone in our region. It was an artists' community in the early 20th century and has kept that aura all these years. Last weekend, they had their annual "Open Atelier" weekend where local artisans and artists show their wares and how they work. It was a good reason to do another get-ready-for-the-big-tour ride. Off we went!
There are several ways to get there, but the last bit is always boring, a bikeway right along the highway, because there are so many fields and drainage ditches. Oh well.
There's always this display near the information booth, lots of prints and lithographs. Glad the weather was good!
Werner posting near a piece that was a face. So, face on face! Werner's more fun to look at.
We walked up and down the pedestrian zone, looked at a few studios and then opted for coffee and cake. Nice view over my shoulder...
We took a different route home than the one that got us there, but everything here is flat. No matter, there are still breathtaking views.
Further along, we crossed the Hamme and saw some folks in a traditional peat boat taking a cruise.
Passing through Osterholz-Scharmbeck (which we've done a lot of times!) we found a small place new to us - the Klosterplatz (Cloister Square). The former church of the cloister, small but lovely, was open. Nice for us!
Then we high-tailed it home along a route we've taken a few times, along the railroad a good bit of the way, lots of paved and unpaved paths, very little traffic. So, 58K, a pretty good ride! We're getting in shape, I hope...
