Kohl und Pinkel v. 2023

Maybe I've figured out how many of these get-togethers we've had, but I'm not tempted to look back right now. Let's say, it's been a lot. I guess the most folks at one time was 10; 8 is probably the average. This year's 6 was small but nice. (In German it's fun to say because it rhymes: klein aber fein!)

It always begins with coffee and a bit of chocolate and time to chat. We admired the new wood-burning stove installed when we in Germany were scared we would not have enough gas to heat our houses this past winter. It worked out well - everyone was conservative with their energy and the winter was not as cold as usual. Lucky us. And who doesn't love watching a burning fire?

After a bit of chat and chocolate and caffeine, it's time to take a walk. Bring on the Schnaps cups. I immediately noticed the hangers were Garnet and Gold. Go Noles!

It's springtime, still a bit early, but the sweet Snowdrops are out.

We wandered through Knoop's Park for a couple of hours and admired so many views. How lucky we were to have a sunny day! But we only ran into two other Kohl-und-Pinkel-Fahrt groups. It seems the tradition has fewer followers these days....

We stop here and there and have a little sip of Schnapps and some sweets. My preference is the chocolate covered caramel. But, man, be careful! It can take out your fillings!!

So many lovely views along the way.

And aren't we lovely, too!

Properties along the walk are fenced. Some are old, some new.

Some had trees that grew into the fence and then later had to be cut away.

Then back to home base and so ready for our feast!! A beer, a plate of goodies, a pleasant fire.

Heading home, the moon shining through the trees was a lovely end to a special day. Thank goodness for friends, for traditions, and for yummy, yummy food.
