Dear Werner loves a project, and he's made a number of these bread slicers.
We bought our first one at a fair in Tallahassee, what? ten years ago? The guy called it an Appalachian Bread Saw. We love it and use it a lot. Then again, we buy a lot of bread in loaf form, so it needs slicing. That blade is incredibly sharp, doesn't squash or squish anything and makes a great slice.
Then, while visiting sister Julia and BIL Larry, we got a pattern and some wood from Larry's stash and blades for more saws. Werner was in business!
But it was a bit challenging doing the sanding to get the nice rounded edges and smooth flat parts. We don't have a lot of room here and Werner's "workshop" is always temporary and has few tools. But he's so creative and found a way to make a tool from what he has.
The ever-useful drill, clamped on the worktop to make a band sander! How clever.
And here's the last of the bread cutters, so lovely. Peggy and Andreas will love it, I know!
