2021

We all love beginnings, but I wonder if we all love them a bit more this year.  Good riddance to 2020 and so many hopes pinned on 2021. Here's to a better year for us all.

Our year started like many in the last few years, and it brings a bit of comfort -- a walk in Meyenburg, a small village nearby.  We can walk thorough bit s of the town and the farmland, enjoy the cobbled streets and the  muddy paths.  On New Year's Day, there are always lots of folks walking and they all say "Moin"  or "Frohes Neues" and there are lots of smiles.  Oh, newness!

It was a bit wet and a bit gray and a bit warm. There have been years with snow and/or sunshine, but not this year.  Kind of middling - mostly dry, a bit of rain at the end, not warm but not really cold, mostly gray with hints of blue.

For me, it was the first long foray on foot after weeks of literally lying around helping my eye heal.  We took it slow and easy.

Things don't change much.  The mill still runs, the ducks still swim and quack. In this year of so much upheaval, that was particularly nice to see.

And at the end, we even got a bit of a sunset!

Keep in mind, it was 4:00 in the afternoon.  But the days are getting longer, my eye is getting better, the vaccines are coming, and there's hope on the horizon.

Here's to New.

Life does go on, and I hope it will get better for all as the days lengthen before passing on to tomorrow. I’m scheduled for vaccine Tuesday, so that, hopefully, is a first step toward better. Take care and happy new year.
