Nevertheless, I still get these regular emails and sometimes I look and sometimes something is interesting and sometimes I try it..
The other day it was roasted jalapeños stuffed with smoked Gouda. That sounded good - looked good, too.
Werner has lost a lot of his sense of smell and spicy things are more
appealing to his palate these days, so I thought that would be
interesting. There's a small market in our neighborhood run by a Lebanese
family and they often have fresh jalapeños. Check. Our cheese stand
at the market has everything cheese, right? Check.
Well, no Check! No smoked Gouda, no jalapeños. But the Lebanese market had another pepper that was not quite as hot, so we adjusted the cheese stuffing and added some hot pepper flakes to the stuffing and tweeked the recipe here and there and roasted it all.
The supreme taste-tester Werner declared them The Epitome of Appetizers. I blushingly accepted this compliment from the guy who thinks mozzarella sticks are to die for.
Of course, these morsels of deliciousness will never be replicated since they were made on the fly, but we'll try them again with real jalapeños - on Friday.
