Apple Time

The harvest is a bit earlier this year, they said, because of sunshine and warm weather. Besides buying them at the market, we have friends with a tree: Duchess of Oldenburg. What a name.

The apples are TART ! really crispy and don't keep at all well - you need to eat them, preserve them or make desserts.

Ginny and Julia, you'll understand when I say they taste great with salt - brings back memories. Here are some of the apples we picked, organic, so they aren't all picture pretty.

Besides a gallon of applesauce and a dinner of apple-stuffed pork chops, I made a Tarte Tatin. It looked beautiful and tasted just as good as it looked. I'm not really doing a food blog, but if you want the recipe and can manage a half a pound of butter in one dessert, just let me know.
