Seems we've begun the season when there's something going on almost every weekend. Today it was the Loggermarkt, traditionally the day that all the fishing ships brought in the herring they'd caught, salted and kegged. In times past, the harbor was filled with the kegs of fish -- quite a sight. These days of course, it's an excuse for a flea market, music, demonstrations of old crafts and skills, and of course, food. Upcoming in the next three weeks is the Spring fun fair and then the Wine Fest, all here in our little neighborhood.
This is the view of the old harbor and the harbor promenade - in the background the beginnings of the crowds. As you can see, it was a nice day. The last one for a little while - tomorrow it's supposed to rain and get a lot cooler.
This is one of the stands that sold fresh fruit. They yell to get attention and lots of people buy BIG bag of fruit for just 5€. Not us - we're leaving for Paris tomorrow.
This old salt is hanging fresh eel in a screened box. It'll be placed in a barrel over burning wood and smoked.
Food - there was lots of it, but this Bratwurst stand with a Pirate motif caught our eye. We didn't eat anything (!!!!) while walking around.
The best (?) part though was the music. A group called The Germans (creative, huh?), average age 60 I think, were playing old rock 'n roll hits. I didn't get as much of this performance as I wanted, but pay attention to the words.
