Storms
We don't really have hurricanes here, but a thing they call an ORKAN comes by now and again. The winds reach hurricane force, but usually not the swirling whirling winds in Florida. It's a direct forward in-your-face blast.
This morning they announced a severe weather warning with winds from 70 to 90 mph. The rain was falling when we got up and never stopped the whole day - and I mean real RAIN. I don't think I've ever seen that here. We walked to the market where it was half-empty of vendors - the winds will really pick up and throw around the awnings of the stands - and on the way home ran into all the kids who'd been let out of school early. Then we heard the busses were being cancelled after 1 PM. News later said lines along the railway were down and thousands of train travellers stranded all over north Germany. You can read about it here.
But us, we rather enjoyed it. Sounded like lots of trucks driving by at times - not the proverbial on-coming train, but loud enough.
Here's a little video of our Garden Dancer that Julia gave us for Christmas a year ago pirouetting in the wind. The bushes behind and above show a bit more of the windy - ness.
Stay dry and warm.
